First of all, get an overview of the place: The Pöstlingbergbahn, one of the steepest funicular railways in the world, will take you up the Pöstlingberg, where you will have a fantastic view of the city and river. In Linz itself, you can stroll through the many little alleyways and experience classic Austria, for example in the form of baroque buildings such as the Old Town Hall or the Old Cathedral. Afterwards, let the open-air gallery Mural Harbor, where you can see large-scale graffiti artwork, and the Ars Electronic Center media museum brings you back to the present day. The best way to end the day is at the Frau Dietrich cocktail bar, ranked Upper Austria’s best bar. YOU HAVE TO SEE : The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, or New Cathedral, the largest church in Austria. After ascending the 395 steps, you will be rewarded with a magnificent view. YOU HAVE TO TRY: Linzer Torte, of course. This is the best place to try it, obviously – why not order two slices? L INZ In the Slovakian capital, glorious rococo meets modernity, whilst relaxed Mediterranean vibes meet urban hustle and bustle. The Old Town Hall in the city centre, which is best explored on foot, exhibits Gothic architecture. A contrast is provided by the Church of St. Elisabeth, with its bright blue Art Nouveau facade. After a brief ascent to the Slavín war memorial, you will have a great view over Bratislava and the Danube. In the nearby Horský Park, you can stroll under the dense canopy of trees and enjoy the peace and quiet. Haydn made music at Grassalkovich Palace, the current residence of the president of Slovakia. After taking in all the sights, you can treat yourself to a freshly drawn beer – Bratislava is a real beer city with many small breweries. YOU HAVE TO SEE : The narrowest house in Europe. It is only 1.3 metres wide and is right by Michael’s Gate in the old town. YOU HAVE TO TRY: Vienna is not far away, so themany coffee houses here are also worth a visit.
